Bedtime Stories!

This time last year our house had no books in it at all, fast forward to today and we have a great collection of books, baby story books that is!

I really want Baby E to grow up and love to read, I loved reading when I was little so I want him to enjoy it the way I did!

Baby E loves a good book before bed, I usually carry him through and let him pick a book to read - he usually chooses the same ones, we then sit on the couch - daddy too - and read the story he has chosen. He gets so excited when he sees a book and even more excited when we sit down a begin to read! The squeals that come from him makes my heart swell! We don't usually get right to the end as he is either bored and trying to close the book or is sound asleep in my arms!

The books Baby E has been going to more are the three above, The Hungry Caterpillar, Goodnight Tractor and Giraffes Can't Dance.

The Hungry Caterpillar is a huge favourite in our house and not just by Baby E! I had this story when I was a baby and my mum said I was obsessed with it. This was the very first book I bought for him and I think I read it to him when he was only days old. I don't think he knew I was reading to him as he was sound asleep as many newborns are! The book is such a great story and is timeless, I know with our next baby that we will be reading this exact same book to it and it will forever be in our possession!

Goodnight Tractor is a book that was bought by Baby E's grandparents! His Daddy works with tractors as does his grandad. So tractors are well and truly in our family! This story is very cute, about a boy saying goodnight to all his toys, and is a great calming, unwinding book to get you ready for bed! Goodnight Tractor has big illustrations which Baby E loves to point at and can follows the story.

Lastly is one of my favourites! Giraffes Can't Dance is a brilliant book! About a Giraffe that gets mocked because he cant dance, but at the end he creates his own dance! Every time Baby E choose this book I get a little excited! I mean who doesn't like a good rhyming book?! By far the best book in our collection... so far!

Have you got a book you love more than the kids do? I'd love to know!

  2. I love reading, I typically read one book a week, and so passing on reading and sharing in reading with my son is something I love greatly. We don't get to read bedtime stories - this livens Alexander up far too much - but we do try to read at least once daily, often more, because Alexander does enjoy reading.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is much loved in our household, as well as an abundance of other books - Alexander's collection is close to rivalling my own!

  4. We love most by Julia Donaldson in our house - my current favourite is Superworm. I must admit to being a bit partial to Kipper or Spot the Dog, mainly as I remember them from my childhood days.

What does surprise me is when we pick up and old classic to read like Hansel and Gretel... The amount of deaths in these stories are unreal... I mean H&G pushed the evil lady into the oven and closed the door, whilst their wicked stepmother had also died by the time they returned to their dad?!? :-)
