Don't you just feel helpless when your little one is not feeling very well? Wishing you could take all the pain away...
Well that was completely the case when we had a really poorly boy last week! Originally I thought it was just the start of a cold and then he soon developed an eye infection so with a trip to the doctors we found out my little boy had a viral infection, a chesty cough and conjunctivitis!
We were given so drops for his eyes and told to give him Calpol too. I think Elliott might be a lover of medicine as every time I ask him if he wants some medicine he runs where it's kept and stamps his feet excitingly! I wish it was the same for the eye drops!!! He absolutely hates getting them. Doesn't mind the cotton wool and warm water but but as soon as I whip out the drops it's a screaming match - no tears, just a pure scream! I've tried making it fun, getting him to 'put' them in my eyes and then I do his - nope. I've even tried sitting on him and tickling him and squeezing them in while he's laughing but that ends up in a screaming match again! I have googled and googled things to help, but everyone is shot down.
It reminds me of the scene in Friends (above) when Rachel just doesn't want to put her eye drops in.
The infection is now gone but we were meant to do a course of one drop on each eye 4 times a day for 5 days... We did 3 and a half as he was just so traumatised by it all.
As for the viral infection, that has gone. The cough is still there and as I write this I can hear him coughing, so another trip to the doctors might be on the cards!
Hopefully he gets better soon. Have you had any similar experiences with getting your child to take medicines etc? Or if you have any tips let me know as I'm sure eye drops will feature in his life at some point again!

I don't think any child loves eye drops. My son too loves medicine haha, but he hates eye drops. He had an eye infection when he was 1 and trying to get eye drops in him was a total nightmare! Lots of screaming and rolling around, poor soul. #TriedTested

DeleteI've tried everything, from bribing and coaxing to pinning down. It can be quite distressing for everyone! One thing that used to work quite sometimes with Izzy was pretending to put them in her toy's eyes and then it would be her turn, but it really depended what kind of mood she was in! #toddlerapprovedtuesday

DeleteWe're having to put eye drops in my daughters eyes at the moment, since November! The first week was awful and we were both stressed out by the end of the week but once I became less anxious she relaxed and has been fine since then. I found that getting her to lay right back with head back, eye looking up for cobwebs on the ceiling (we have lots) seemed to do the job. It's not fun though!
