Spicing up lunches!

I am always looking for new things to make Elliott for Breakfast, Lunch and Tea - although he eats pretty much what we eat at teatimes.

I feel I am always giving him the same day in day out, whether it be Rice Crispies one morning and toast the next, guaranteed it'll be right back to Rice Crispies the following morning. I seem to lack creativity in the kitchen!

It is exactly the same story at lunchtime, it's usually a saNdwich with a choice of spread (or whatever is in the fridge that day) some fruit and a yogurt. But I still feel this is very samey!

When Nairn's got in contact and offered us a couple of samples for Elliott to try. I felt like this was a great way to spice up his lunches!

We were sent 3 boxes of crackers and some fun biscuits.

Nairn's Oat Crackers (99p)(*) are a lighter, crispier alternative to oatcakes, but contains all the same oaty goodness and are made to a wheat-free recipe. Baked with sunflower seeds for extra crunch and flavour, they taste delicious on their own or with your favourite sweet or savoury topping for a lighter, but still sustaining snack. I think these were Elliott's favourites. He would happily munch on them as a snack with a light covering of butter! Oh, and he wouldn't/couldn't just have the one, it was always two - sometimes three!!

Nairn's Rough Oatcakes (99p)(*) are seriously oaty! They are packed with wholegrain oats and lots of them! These were a bit to thick for Elliott, he did eat them but much preferred the others. They are suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans, which in this day and age is brilliant!

Nairn's Fine Milled Oatcakes (99p)(*)are baked with finely milled oats to make them thinner and crispier. Their lighter texture and creamy oaty taste make them perfect for more delicately flavoured toppings. Again Elliott munched away at a good few of these, with out without toppings. I think he liked how they crumbled in his mouth. These are also suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans.

By far Elliott's favourites were the Astro Bites (£1.65)(*). They are a healthier way to fuel your little ones through the day. Made with wholegrain oats, fruit pieces and with less sugar than the average children's biscuit, each mini bag will provide the perfect playground snack to sustain your children for the day ahead. These were gone in a matter of days! In fact I have already repurchased them - he liked them that much! They are so handy for on the go too, we have one in the changing bag just in case!

Along with the oatcakes and biscuits we were sent a little tin, which is fantastic for carrying round oatcakes without the fear of them being broken!

This has certainly spiced up Elliott's lunches, I must admit this is something I wouldn't have actually bought myself so I am so glad they sent us some to try as they are now a firm favourite in Elliott's books that's for sure!

If you are looking for new ideas for lunch or even just a snack grab yourself a box of Nairn's Oatcakes or Astro Biscuits - I am sure your little one will love them as much as mine!

  1. I've just discovered oatcakes as a snack for Piglet and they seem to fill him up a lot more than rice cakes and the usual baby fare, which is fab. Might try these Astro bites next.

  8. We've not tried crackers or oatcakes (I don't even know what they are?!) with Baby L. She'd probably love them though as she eats anything. Little fatty.
