Mother & Toddlers - An Update!

Sorry for the rubbish photo - he doesn't stay still long enough and is constantly running about!

We started going to a Mother and Toddlers group back in January when Elliott was 6 months old. We could have gone earlier but I felt that he would have not benefited as much as he was a non moving baby. At 6 months old he was sitting up by himself and attempting to crawl (we called it the worm!) I felt I took him at the right age as he has thieved from attending it.

We attend the Mother and Toddlers every Tuesday and Wednesday morning 9:30am - 11:30am/noon. With Elliott being a lazy baby - don't worry I'm not wishing this away, ever! He sometimes is not up in time for it starting, but we usually arrive 9:45am/10am.
As soon as we get into the room, he is gone! I don't even get a backwards glance!

He absolutely loves attending and has made some really good friends in the same age bracket.

The Toddlers he attends is also a ticket into the Playgroup which is held in the next room. Playgroup is from 2 and a half up to 5 years old, and from there he will go straight into Primary School.

So for this reason, I make sure we go every Tuesday and Wednesday as I want to get him use to going and feeling comfortable leaving me.
All the friends he has made in the past 9 months will all be going through at the same time, so he will not be starting something new by himself which for me is something that fills me with a little comfort.

In Toddlers they have many toys and activities that they can partake in if they wish and usually he does, which is great - I got my first Mothers Day card made at Toddlers (Yes I was there, yes I helped!) We also made a homemade Fathers Day card too. These are memories that we will cherish, in fact I have popped them into his keepsakes box.

Along with Elliott enjoying himself and making friends, I have made some friends, friends that I feel I have known my entire life. I would not have met them if we had never gone to Mothers and Toddlers.

I love going too, I hear all these horror stories of baby groups and they are all very bitchy and don't give the newbies a second glance, at the Toddlers we attend I can't say I have ever felt that, everyone was and still are so welcoming and keep me occupied with many, many cups of tea! It's a fantastic place for advice if you are unsure or if you think somethings not right - guaranteed one person has or is going through the same thing and will offer some helpful advice.

I personally think every little one should attend something similar and meet new little friends, even if it is to give you a little break from having a baby around you 24/7. Elliott is thriving and is certainly coming on leaps and bounds from being at a group - his talking and social skills being the main things! He has a good group of friends that he would never have met if we hadn't gone along!

Do you attend any Baby Groups?

  2. We did some diddy baby groups when I was very small, but I started nursery at 6 months and our free days were spent travelling around. They are very beneficial though and sounds like you enjoy them and the 'pleasant' crowd of other mummies. x #BabyBrainMonday

  5. My eldest one was at nursery since she was almost 1 so we never went to a toddler group but my little one (1 year old) will not go to nursery yet so I'm thinking that I should start looking for this soon as she needs to interact with other kids too. I would love to have the same experience like you. Thanks for sharing, xx

  9. So glad you've had such a fab experience and that Elliot enjoys it so much :) I never did enough of this stuff and I beat myself up over it so much. The anxiety of taking him places alone always overcame me. Frustrating looking back. I guess nursery now hopefully makes up for it a little?! Though it feels a lot different to being able to stay with him there. Cherish those moments Hun. He's adorable x thanks for linking up #babybrainmonday x
